I was fairly late to the party with playing Uncharted. It wasn't until December 2010. Even then I was like…”whoa, his pants are wet, but the shirt is still dry”!
I really enjoyed this. I enjoy reading and writing about the *experience* of gaming more than listing off mechanics and specs and you hit that kind of writing perfectly here.
I also have vivid memories of Uncharted but of watching my older brother playing it while I was still on PS2, my 7-8 year old self decided to leave towards the end after *that moment* scared the shit out of me. Great game.
Hahaha I think I know the moment you're talking about. I love how the earlier Uncharted games dabbled more in the supernatural before they progressively became more grounded. Really captured that pulp adventure vibe that Amy Hennig was going for.
I'm not a big Sony guy but damn, what a great series of games. I loved the supernatural elements too and was hoping for a bit more of that in the later games. 2 and 4 were the highlights for me; it's been a few years but I remember not enjoying Uncharted 3 that much.
Amy Hennig is one of the finest talents in this industry, she also wrote the Legacy of Kain games.
This exact moment gets me too. Wet pants in uncharted, and precise interaction with deep snow in Last of Us. Just wow...

What a time to be alive.

I'm glad you enjoyed the piece!
